Derwent will provide each student with a tin of 72 Derwent Artbars; one Derwent Scraper; one Derwent Spritzer; a Derwent Shave ‘n’ Save and a Derwent A3 Watercolour Pad. The total value of your materials is worth over £115(rrp).

Derwent Artbars are triangular bars of creamy watercolour. The wax-based bars are completely water-soluble and dry marks almost seem to melt under your brush.

The workshop will take place at Knuston Hall, near Irchester, Northants, starting at 10am and concluding at 5.30pm.

There are 20 places available and the cost of the workshop is £110 (inc VAT) per person, which includes tuition from Soraya French, Derwent materials worth over £115 (rrp), a light lunch and refreshments.

Soraya French works in all media and is a regular contributor to The Artist. She uses light and vibrant colours to full effect in her paintings. Soraya will introduce the properties of the Artbar and accessories before demonstrating various techniques, including using Artbars as pans of watercolour, applying Artbars onto dry paper, using the spritzer to mix colours, creating a sgraffito effect, splattering and creating texture. Composition, colour mixing, harmony and balance will also be covered. Students will work from their own subject matter with individual guidance from Soraya. .
