The Derwent Pencil Museum is delighted to announce the 'Artist In Residence' courses for winter 2017.This year we have taken inspiration from our local Cumbrian artists, with some new talent alongside those who have been many times before. Two days of instructional teaching and a workshop day for each artist will be hosted at the Pencil Museum.
Workshops are a one-day course which includes morning coffee, lunch, afternoon tasty treats, and refreshments throughout the day, plus an additional 10% discount on Derwent retail products. All art materials are supplied for every course. Priced at £75.00 per workshop.

Dorothy is an expressive landscape artist inspired by the beautiful Cumbrian mountains; she likes to work in Derwent XL Charcoal/Graphite and Graphitint ranges. Her work can be viewed by visiting the C-art website: http://c-art.org.uk/
Karen specialises in detailed wild animal drawings and works in coloured pencil, using Derwent Artist Pencils, Coloursoft and the new Procolour Pencils. She is a self-taught professional Coloured Pencil Artist painting mostly wildlife subjects, some with a “twist”! She is also a Gold Signature member of the UK Coloured Pencil Society and runs workshops for the society. She has been an artist in residence for many years at Derwent. Her workshop is a two and a half day course priced at £170.00 (8 places still available).
Alex works in mixed media but one of her favourite mediums is Derwent Inktense and Watercolour range. She will be working in this medium for her workshop.
Valerie works in graphite and mixed colour pencils, focusing her studies on the natural world and wildlife.
Susan Christopher Coulson is a botanical artist working in mixed media colour pencils. Developing her techniques over many years, Susan is an inspirational teacher of botanical art.
Jenny Payne is a founder member of the Florence mine paint makers in West Cumbria and a talented artist who specialises in wildlife, land and seascapes. She likes using Derwent Pastel Pencils.
Fiona Reeves is a Botanical artist working with mixed media colour pencils. She lives and works high up on Coniston Fell and was inspired at an early age by her love of gardening. She draws in coloured pencil and watercolours.
Anne Corless works in the creative arts as an artist and illustrator, designer, medical artist and writer. With a love of the natural world Anne’s studio is full of drawings and paintings of people, animals, landscapes and seascapes, created in a variety of media from delicate pencil drawings. A popular artist in residence at the Derwent Pencil Museum, working in mixed media.
Karen MacDougall is a very versatile artist who draws, paints, sculpts, works on textiles, and creates installations. Originally training as an architect she loves the precision of Derwent pens and pencils and also the intensity of Inktense pencils and blocks that can even be applied to 3D work. Karen works mainly to commission on a wide variety of projects. She has just finished a major commission for Hadrian's Cavalry working with 8 museums and galleries along Hadrian's Wall creating a new artwork for display in each location.
