David Sandell is an award-winning artist in both pencil and oils and his work frequently features in international art publications. Focusing on portraits he remains fascinated by the human face as a representation of personality and self. He initially trained as a graphic designer and illustrator and runs a successful design agency; in recent years he has specialised in portraiture.
Although he doesn't consider his work mainstream, he has been recognised with various awards: in 2014 he was shortlisted for 'Artist of the Year' by Artist & Illustrator magazine and finalist in the 2015 International Portrait Awards held in Atlanta, USA for his coloured pencil portrait ‘Self Analysis.’ He has exhibited with the Royal Society of British Artists, Royal Birmingham Society of Artists and the Portrait Society of America. He works in oil paint, graphite, coloured pencil, charcoal and pastels.
